The class will focus improving your winging skills. Starting with some hair wing guide flies we’ll work up to more advanced techniques for feather winged wet flies and traditional upwing dry flies. Time permitting, we’ll also tie some married wings. Come join Alun for a thoroughly enjoyable learning experience.

Alun Thomas started fly tying aged 11 at a fishing class in Rhydaman, Wales, and has been tying ever since. After moving to Salt Lake in the mid 1990s, he joined an informal group at the Spinner Fall fly shop who taught each other to tie traditional Atlantic salmon and steelhead flies. His favorite flies to tie are traditional Welsh wet fly patterns and British or Catskill dry flies all of which he uses on the rivers in Utah and on trips back to west Wales. Alun has also been a featured tyer at the various expos through out the west and has demonstrated at Jimmy’s All Seasons Anglers and fly shops in the Salt Lake City area.
